Madrid (December, 2001)

Finally! Christmas in another country.

Although Madrid was the coldest it had been in over 50 years (it even snowed on my second day!) I still had an amazing time.

The city is beautiful, the people are warm and friendly, the food is awesome (seafood anyone?), and the nightlife was some of the best that I've experienced in Europe.

Every day I walked around getting lost and found again in the beautiful streets of this bustling city and every night I would connect with a group of people and hop from one place to another with them.

English isn't spoken as much as in other European capitals but you could always find a person or two who could speak a little bit. Needless to say, my Spanish improved a great deal but French and even German came in handy sometimes as well.

Although Madrid didn't capture my heart like Barcelona (I also went back there for New Years) I will definitely go back for a second round!
